Luxembourgish euro
The euro replaced the Luxembourgish franc (LUF) on January 1st 2002 with a conversion rate of 1 EUR= 40.3399 LUF.
Yvette Gastauer-Claire designed the coins by agreement with the Royal Household and the Luxembourg Government. All the euro coins in Luxembourg have the profile of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri. They show also the year of minting and the word "Luxembourg" written in Luxembourgish ("Letzebuerg").
Since Luxembourgish coins have the indication of the state in the outer ring, instead of the 12 stars of the European union only as required by the EU guidelines, a new design is expected in the future.
Luxembourg does not mint its own coins, using the Royal Dutch Mint, the Mint of Finland and the Monnaie de Paris
