French euro
The euro replaced in 2002 the French franc (FRF), with an exchange rate of 1 EUR = 6.55957 FRF
The choice of the French euro national side was done by a committee chaired by the Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance and the Director of the French mint, Emmanuel Constant, the engraver Pierre Rodier, members of the European Commission and Parliament, as well representatives of various professional groups. The selected design were:
- 1, 2 and 5 euro cents: Marianne, a symbol used in the coins already in French francs. The design is the work of the engraver of the Paris Mint Fabienne Courtiade;
- 10, 20 and 50 euro cents: Drills, theme designed by Laurent Jorio, but this already famous for its use in the French franc;
- 1 and 2 euro: designed by the artist Joaquim Jimenez, have the tree of life contained in a hexagon surrounded by the motto "Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité" of the French Revolution.
All coins have also the 12 stars of the European Union, the year of minting, the national symbol "RF", the symbol of the mint and the one of the Director of the Mint.
